(AmericanPoliticalDaily.com)- President-elect Joe Biden is reportedly going to forge an assault on gun owners.
Under his tax plan and gun ban, gun owners in the U.S. could end up facing billions of dollars in new taxes.
According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Biden’s gun registration idea that he touted while campaigning would affect at least 20 million rifles and 150 million ammunition magazines. The new taxes could cost Americans $34 billion, a Washington Free Beacon analysis showed.
The NSSF is skeptical that the Biden gun-control plan would even be able to be implemented, just because of the large number of magazines and guns that it would cover.
As Mark Olivia, a spokesman for the NSSF said:
“I think if [Biden and his team] were smart, they would look at those numbers and get an idea of where America stands on gun ownership and gun rights.”
Part of Biden’s plan is to ban new sales of any AR-15 rifles as well as other firearms that are similar to it. In addition, he would ban all ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. Part of the issue is that most modern handguns and rifles come standard with at least 10 rounds.
Biden would seek to pay some gun owners to surrender guns they legally own that would be affected by his new rules. Everyone else who didn’t receive the payment-for-surrender would be forced to then register their affected guns under the National Firearms Act. Each item would come along with a $200 tax stamp assessed on it.
If Biden’s proposed plan were to be imposed, it would affect almost half of every rifle that was produced in 2018. The latest Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives manufacturer reports were used by the NSSF in this analysis. But those reports only go through 2018, Olivia said, and sales of AR-15s have grown in popularity since.
“That manufacturer’s report comes out [with] an 18- to 24-month delay. That number is probably significantly higher now.”
Evidence to this can be found in the fact that there were record number of gun sales in 2020. The guns and ammunition that Biden is hoping to ban are so popular today because of the customizability and modularity they offer. They’re also effective for home defense, sport shooting and hunting, Olivia said.
The total number of firearms on the market in America between 1991 and 2019 is up to roughly 214 million, according to the report this week. Contributing to that was the fact that 11.4 million firearms were either imported or made in the U.S. in 2018. Another 9.3 million were added to that total in 2019.
This all adds up to the country not being in favor of stricter gun-control laws, Olivia said. He explained:
“America’s attitude on gun control is shifting more toward the idea that we need to protect our rights and away from the idea we need government control of our destiny.”
