(AmericanPoliticalDaily.com)- Dr. Anthony Fauci became the best-known face of the COVID-19 lockdown. HE is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and one of the leading members of the White House Coronavirus Task Force. After almost two months of no press briefings relating to the lockdown, and as states begin to reopen businesses, Fauci is back and advising the country that a second lockdown isn’t off the table.
The news comes as Florida and Texas scale back their reopening efforts as coronavirus cases begin to peak again.
In a discussion for the Milken Institute, Fauci was asked about the possibility of more states entering a second lockdown. Meg Tirrell referenced the situation in Texas, and asked for Fauci’s thoughts.
“What is the solution now for these areas that are in such trouble?” Tirrell asked. “We saw in Texas they are pausing the state’s reopening. They’re basically freezing it where it is and in the hospitals, not allowing elective surgeries to try to make space to try to make potential space for COVID patients. But do areas that are seeing the worst spread need to consider going back backward even more and perhaps going back to shelter-in-place orders?”
Fauci didn’t disagree.
“They may have to do that,” he said. “I think if you immediately say – in other words – this all-or-none phenomenon that just misleads us. If you say you’re going to go back into lockdown, there will be an absolute push back on that you might have to do it. You never take that off the table.”
Florida and Texas have seen a recent spike in COVID-19 cases. Florida was among the very first states to reopen restaurants and bars, allowing people to enter establishments and dine as normal. As a result of this, and an increase in testing, an increase of positive tests has prompted state governments to respond.
The United States has been at the forefront of COVID testing for some time now, and it’s a double-edged sword. It means that more cases are being discovered every day.
