(AmericanPoliticalDaily.com)- Massachusetts just lowered the age at which girls can legally access abortion without their parents’ permission, in a huge step back for the state. The Massachusetts legislature overrode a veto from Republican Governor Charlie Baker, allowing teenage girls as young as 16 to access abortion without telling their parents or obtaining their permission.
The ROE Act was originally vetoed by Governor Baker in opposition to the lowering of the age requirement, but the state House and Senate overrode that veto on Tuesday.
It’s a big win for Democrats who have for years pushed for reducing restrictions on abortions and making it easier for young teenage girls to access abortions in secret.
In a statement, pro-life organization “Susan B. Anthony List” criticized the passing of the ROE Act.
“This dangerous new law allows for late-term abortion on-demand across Massachusetts, and secret abortions for minor girls as young as 16,” Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser explained.
“Governor Baker is pro-choice, but this legislation was too much for him to stomach: his veto exemplifies just how extreme it is,” she added.
The legislation, however, has been widely praised by progressives and Democrats who consider it a victory for “abortion rights.”
One Twitter account representing a Texas abortion access service said that they “celebrate this win for youth reproductive rights.”

State Senator Harriette Chandler also claimed that the passing of the legislation was a victory for “reproductive freedom.”
Chandler disingenuously compared the struggle of pregnant people having “once faced near insurmountable barriers accessing abortion case” to giving children as young as 16 access to a life-changing surgical procedure without having to tell their parents.
Pregnant people who once faced near-insurmountable barriers accessing abortion care can now seize the right to control their own bodies.

In case you didn’t realise already, Chandler is a Democrat.
Dannenfelser also said in a statement that the Democrats worked to “ram” the legislation through and that their actions were a “reflection of just how extreme the party has become on abortion.”
“Led by Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Chuck Schumer, and Nancy Pelosi, the Democrats’ agenda for the entire nation is reflected in this bill: abortion-on-demand, up until the moment of birth,” she added.
